| Summary, etc. | Ein Blick in naturwissenschaftliche Zeitschriften verdeutlicht die große Bedeutung von Visualisierungen bei der Wissensvermittlung. Sowohl für die intra- als auch für die interdisziplinäre Kommunikation sowie die Popularisierung wissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse sind Visualisierungen zentral. Zugleich reduzieren Abbildungen komplexe Wirklichkeit aber immer auch auf bestimmte Aspekte und blenden andere systematisch aus. In sechs Beiträgen untersuchen Mitglieder des Jungen Kollegs der Nordrhein-Westfälischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Künste Praktiken und Probleme der Visualisierung in ihren jeweiligen Fachdisziplinen. Die Beiträge aus der Geschichts- und Musikwissenschaft, der Medizin und Biologie sowie der Physik und Mathematik zeigen, dass Visualisierungen nicht nur zur Kommunikation bekannten Wissens, sondern an vielen Stellen auch im Erkenntnisprozess selbst eine bedeutende Rolle spielen. |
