| Summary, etc. | L'immunité innée constitue la première ligne de défense contre les pathogènes, à l'inverse de la réponse d'immunité adaptative, plus tardive et présente uniquement chez les vertébrés.Cet ouvrage examine la façon dont l'immunité innée a été découverte chez les invertébrés. Il prend pour point de départ les travaux de Louis Pasteur sur une maladie du ver à soie et ceux d'Élie Metchnikoff, découvreur de la phagocytose. Il s'intéresse ensuite à André Paillot, qui démontre en 1920 l'existence chez l'insecte d'une réponse humorale, sans rapport avec celle des vertébrés. Enfin, Immunité innée montre comment le groupe dirigé par Jules Hoffmann a trouvé de fortes similitudes entre la réponse innée des insectes et des mammifères. C'est finalement la découverte d'un récepteur chez la drosophile, retrouvé chez l'homme, qui conduit à l'attribution du prix Nobel à Jules Hoffmann en 2011. |
